How fun was this project!! The second I saw the inspiration for the windows of this darling home on the California coast, I knew exactly what direction to take. While we designed multiple spaces for this client, we couldn't resist previewing the formal living room. Introducing Project "Carpe Fem," a full furniture package designed completely remotely and in under one week.

The house is in great shape with medium-toned white oak floors and perfect creamy white walls (one of our go-to's: Benjamin Moore's White Dove @ 50% opacity) so with a clean slate, decided to honor the traditional charm the home is begging for and combined it with a classic west-coast casualty by using approachable and warm colorways through materials like aged brass and crushed velvet.
During our discovery call, the client mentioned wanting the space to feel cozy, lived-in, and feminine; a space for all her girlfriends to unwind with a glass of wine after a long day. So the entire design started with the perfect place to do just that - this simple sofa profile in warm camel velvet, made modern with the single bench cushion, with a small touch of modern-femineity with the pillow selections - a little pink and rustic green pulled from the oversized art over the darling scalloped credenza (hello doubling as a wine-hideaway!). I kept the décor simple and neutral with splashes of florals here and there, but just had to throw these tigresse ottomans – which reminded me so much of the client's classic, yet feisty personality. I layered in various ambient lighting with brass toned sconces and a floor lamp to give a soft, warm glow at night and, since this will be used formally as a weekend home, opted for faux plants and trees to give the space a little color. The various wood tones in the coffee table, armchair, and darling credenza will bring in a rich, warm balance with the creamy white walls.
